Planned to spend 3 days in Santiago ended up there a week to track down new tires, chain and sprockets and do full service on the bikes. Otherwise did not do much but hang at moto hostel, sleep and eat. Hit road south and ended up in Pucon. The land changes from desert to green and now it feels like we are back at home. Real nice countryside, green meadows and mountains w snow capped volcanoes. We are at a very cush moto camp ground and have been awaiting the arrival of our friend Craig who will ride together with us heading south.
Santiago we foundto be a real nice town, clean, modern and affluent – it felt nicer than most north american towns.
Pucon is about 800 kms south of Santiago in the Lakes District of Chile. A beautiful area, very green with many large blue lakes and is a huge summer vacation area, basically the Whistler of Chile. The town is overrun with tourists and north face and patagonia shops abound. But outside the town is a huge playground of mountains, national parks etc to explore.
We did a day ride around backside of Volcano in Villarica national park through an old growth monkey tree forest.
